December at Sean’s Place

December at Sean’s Place was a month filled with reflection, connection, and the spirit of giving as we welcomed the festive season. As the year drew to a close, our members gathered to share moments of joy, support, and self-care — embracing the warmth of community amidst shorter days and colder nights.

Throughout December, we celebrated the strength of our network, offering a variety of creative, social, and reflective sessions that encouraged both personal growth and shared experiences. From mindfulness workshops to festive social gatherings, this month reminded us of the importance of looking after our mental health, especially during what can be a challenging time of year for many.

At Sean’s Place, we continue to foster an environment where everyone feels heard, supported, and connected — a place where laughter, understanding, and kindness are always in abundance.

Strong Minds Programme

We kicked off December by launching our new Strong Minds programme for young men aged 15-17. The sessions are designed to build confidence and self-esteem, offering space for them to be themselves and connect with others. We had 20 young men take part, with the morning session held at Sacred Heart High School and the afternoon session welcoming 10 more at Sean’s Place. It was incredibly powerful to see so many open up about their feelings and emotions. We’ve loved watching them continue to thrive each week and begin to form friendships. We can’t wait to see their progress over the next 10 weeks!

Theatre Trip

In the same week, some of our Over 60s Club members had a wonderful time watching Scouse Scrooge at the Royal Court Theatre. There was lots of laughter, and even a little impromptu singing! These moments are special because, often in life, it’s not about what we do — it’s who we do it with. By building friendships and creating shared memories, we begin to feel truly connected and part of a community again, which is what Sean’s Place is all about.

Football

Our football sessions, which began a few months ago, have quickly become one of our most popular programmes. In December, for our final session of the year, we had over 30 men take part. We invited our friends at Red Neighbours to join us, and the session was a huge success. We’re so proud of all the lads who take part and look forward to even more sessions in the New Year!

Pilot Gym Programme

This month also saw the launch of our Pilot Gym Programme, in partnership with Active Sefton. Under the guidance of Coach James, members worked on building confidence in the gym. We are excited about our continued partnership with Active Sefton in the New Year, and we congratulate all the members who took part this month!

Christmas at Sean’s Place

Our Christmas festivities kicked off with our Christmas Sing-Along Night, a beautiful evening where we were joined by the families of some of our members, who came to support their loved ones performing on stage. We are so proud of all our amazing musicians who took to the stage!

Next, we were joined by friends from Red Neighbours for a festive afternoon, where 40 members attended our Christmas Masterclass and created the most fabulous Christmas wreaths together.

Later, we treated our members to a Christmas meal and quiz, prepared and served by our team. Everyone left with full bellies and warm hearts after an afternoon of great company and delicious food.

We rounded off our celebrations with our annual Christmas Party. A big thank you to all the men who joined us, took part in the party games, and shared lots of laughter and great company. For many of our members, this is the only party they’ll attend this year — or it may be the first one in years. For us, it’s not about what we do, but who we’re doing it with. At Sean’s Place, we create friendships and lasting memories together.

The Centre was also open on Christmas Day for a couple of hours, offering a space for anyone who wanted to come together and mark the occasion.

Support Summary

As well as all of these special moments for our members, throughout the month of December we have continued to offer 1:1 counselling support  to ensure we are giving our members a well rounded package of care.

Looking Ahead

As we close out 2025, we want to take a moment to thank all of our members, volunteers, and supporters for making this year so special. Together, we’ve built a community where everyone feels heard, valued, and supported — and we can’t wait to see what the new year brings.

In 2026, we’ll continue to offer a safe space for men to connect, grow, and thrive. Whether it’s through our creative sessions, sports, or simply sharing a cup of tea and a chat, Sean’s Place will always be here for you.

We hope the holiday season brings you moments of peace and joy, and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year, where we’ll continue to support each other, laugh together, and grow stronger as a community.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year!
