Family Support Network
Sean’s Place provides a Family Support Network which enables those who support a loved one with a mental health concern to have the opportunity to access advice, training and information about local and online services that may be able to help and support your loved ones in the community and at home.
This network was established from personal experiences of Debbie (our founder) who knew how challenging it can be understanding where to turn, what to say, and knowing what support is available.
For years Debbie wanted to learn more about Sean’s illness, she wanted to know how to respond when he spoke to her about his feelings and thoughts but as there was very little support available so she began to feel isolated and frustrated as she desperately wanted to help and support her brother, but didn’t always know how. Debbie searched for years to find support for Sean but never managed to find anything that was suitable to his needs, she wasn’t aware of apps such as Hub of Hope or the work of Shout 24/7 text Line or even of local support such as James Place or Martin Gallier Project who specialise in suicide prevention.
This is why Debbie chose to create Sean’s Place so not only can she support men just like Sean in the community but also so she can support families resulting in less people experiencing that awful feeling of helplessness with nowhere to turn.
How it Works
Each month we host guest speakers from organisations across Liverpool and Merseyside who share the work they do. You will hear:
- How support can be accessesed
- Who they can support
- How it all works
- Opportunities to ask questions and have discussions
Families will also receive free mental health awareness training to keep their loved ones safe at home and provide information and guidance to better support them when they need it most.
Those who attend will also receive wellbeing support for themselves, we will have holistic therapist attend to offer therapeutic services such as head massages and reiki to relieve stress and tension to allow you to feel relaxed to enable you to continue to support your loved ones at home.
How you can attend
The network usually takes place on the first Thursday of each month at The Fashion Hub in Liverpool City Centre, however due to restrictions on support groups our next session in November will be hosted via Zoom. To attend please email firstname.lastname@example.org for access details.
