Family Support Group

What is it?

Our Family Support Group is a 6-week support group aimed towards individuals who may be supporting a loved one or family member who is struggling with their mental health.

The Family Support Group gives attendees the chance to take time for themselves and focus on their own wellbeing by being around others in a similar situation and taking part in some deep relaxation mindfulness along the way.

We also offer free Suicide Prevention Training on Week 6 so you no longer need to feel helpless and unable to support your loved one.

You or your loved one does not have to be involved with Sean’s Place to join our Family Support Group

The Details

The Family Support Group is a support group, involving mindfulness, that runs for 2 hours a week for 6 consecutive weeks.

For the first hour, attendees are given the time to discuss their own experiences of supporting a loved one with a mental health concern. Attendees are welcome to share as much or as little as they like. There is no pressure from us to talk at all, some prefer to sit and listen and that is absolutely fine. Previous attendees have commented that the element of social support has been a huge benefit for them as they “realised they are not alone”.

The group provides a guided relaxing & soothing therapy session which creates a safe space for attendees to bond with other individuals or families in similar situations to themselves.

For the second hour, attendees take part in our deep relaxation mindfulness which helps to reduce feelings of anxiety, depression and stress. Please read more below.

On week 6, we also offer Suicide Prevention Training which is discussed further in this page!

How Mindfulness Works…

The family support network includes group mindfulness sessions.

Mindfulness involves the relaxing of the conscious mind. This is a therapeutic technique designed to bring about feelings of calmness and relaxation. Mindfulness can also help you learn new coping techniques to help build emotional strength to help you cope with difficult times.

Mindfulness in an alternative therapy and is effective in both short-term healing and long-term healing. This form of therapy is highly effective in treating a number of psychological problems, such as, anxiety, depression and stress.

Our Feedback

We are so proud of the amazing feedback that we have received from attendees so far! Some examples are shown below…

"Since attending the family support network, we have been so much more relaxed and have found a way to deal with difficult situations at home without becoming overwhelmed. I have been able to use the breathing techniques to reduce my anxiety and stop my negative thoughts which has helped me so much. I feel like a completely different person compared to when I first come in! We do not know where we would be without the support from Sean’s Place. Thank you!"

"I was sceptical at first as past therapies have not really worked for me due to how anxious I was. However, since taking part in the group hypnotherapy sessions I am finally finding it easier to relax and feel calmer in myself. Even my partner has noticed that I am in a much better place and I am a lot less agitated than I used to be."

"Since attending this group, I have been able to make steps to get my life back. For the first time in two years, I have been able to leave the house to go and watch my son play football and visit my friends which has been a huge milestone for me! My wife has also gained a lot from this group. She said that she has seen a spark back in me as I am now doing things that I have not been able to do in years!"
