A Great Start to June

What an incredibly busy month we had throughout June with lots happening both in the centre and out and about in the community with our partners, supporters and fundarisers!

We started the month with a members open day so we could ensure that all of our members both old and new were aware of everything that is on offer as part of our social support service, how to book their places and as always it was lovely to have lots of the gyuys come together for a brew and a natter!

The following day we invited the amazing Growth House Theatre Company to take to our stage and perform their incredible ‘Big Strong Man’ show. The show is themed on mens mental health and societies e expectation on masculinity. The performance brought laughter, tears and most importantly a huge sense of empowering men to ask for help. It truly was an incredible night and we cannot wait to see what’s next for Growth House!

Pilot Day

As we continued through June we invited St Mary’s Rugby Club members to take part in a pilot day for our new young person’s service ‘The Nest’ which will be launching in July. The young men who came along took part in a fitness session, BBQ, games session, firepit and gave us amazing feedback. It was a pleasure having them all with us and the day was toppped off with a presentaion evening for the players and a large cheque for us! Thank you to everyone at St Mary’s Rugby Club in Crosby.

Men’s Health Week

During June, we wanted to make sure that our members had the chance to be involved in Men’s Health Week, acknowleding that our physical health and mental health are very intrinsically linked. As part of the week we held additional sessions including an extra Hairy Hikers walking session and a cycling open day at Litherland Sports Park. This all day event invited our members to come along with their bikes or borrow a bike and take part in some tyrack cycling. We had a whole range of our guys coming along, from frequent cyclists to some who had never even sat on a bike before! It was a very special day and has really inspired some of the guys to get out and about with some pedal power!

Monthly LFC Visit

As usual, we had our monthly visit from the LFC Foundation in June and were joined by the amazing Emma Case who is an absolute fountain of LFC football knowledge! The session was focused on the club’s history and in particular, the memorable LFC Champions League victory back in 2005. The lads loved reminiscing and looking at LFC memorabilia…thanks again to our friends at Red Neighbours for a fantastic session!

Speakeasy Peer Support

Throughout June our ‘SpeakEasy’ peer support group has met weekly to look at themes around mental health including collaboration, communication and problem solving so what better way to put all of these skills in to practice than to get the gang involved in an escape room! The lads all worked together using all of the skills they had focused on over the 6 week program and all broke out! One team only had one second to go but they did it! Our next SpeakEasy programme will start again in July and we are already busy planning the next trip out.

The Johnny Mc Festival 2025

Last year we sadly lost a dear friend John Mc after a period of illness. John had been a big part of Sean’s Place and we wanted to celebrate his life and preserve his memory so we decided to start an annual music festival in his honour. John loved music and he was good friends with some of our member musicians. We were joined in our newly restored garden by members and their families and friends as well as John’s family and everyone enjoyed live music, great food from the BBQ and lots of friendship and laughter all while remembering our dear friend John. Thank you for everyone who came along and those who helped the event come together so wonderfully.
