November at Sean’s Place

November at Sean’s Place was filled with warmth, connection and gentle moments of self-care as the days became shorter and the weather turned colder. Throughout the month, our members came together to enjoy a wide range of supportive, creative and social sessions — sharing smiles and laughter, learning new skills, and building meaningful friendships within our safe and welcoming space.

From relaxed drop-in sessions to special events, November was a lovely reminder of the strength of our community and how important it is to take time to look after ourselves and one another.

Winter Ball

Our Winter Glitter Ball fundraiser at the iconic Titanic Hotel in Liverpool was truly an unforgettable night ✨ Bringing together supporters, partners and friends of Sean’s Place, it was a wonderful evening filled with celebration, generosity and togetherness. Set against the stunning backdrop of this historic venue, guests enjoyed a glamorous atmosphere full of sparkle, laughter and heartfelt moments — all in support of mental health and wellbeing.

We are incredibly proud to share that the evening raised over £24,000, which will make a real and lasting difference, helping us continue to provide vital support and a safe, welcoming space for our members.

One of the most special moments of the night came when we surprised our guests with an emotional live performance from our members’ singing group. There truly wasn’t a dry eye in the room, and our amazing members were just as proud of themselves as we were of them 💙

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on the night for your kindness and generosity, to The Carpenters Group and Frank Rogers for being our headline sponsors, and to all those who donated such fantastic raffle and auction prizes. We’d also like to extend a very special thank you to one of our ambassadors, the wonderful Terri Dwyer, who has given so much of her time and support over the past year to help make this event so special.

And with that… we’re already busy planning next year’s Winter Glitter Ball! ✨

Over 60’s Club

It is so important to us that we are always on top of local and national data relating to men’s mental health and over recent years, trends have shown that more mature men are of increased risk of social isolation, depression and suicidal ideation. This is one of the many reasons we created a group for our older gentlemen who attend Sean’s Place and launched our ‘Over 60’s Club’ just a few months ago. It has been fantastic to see new friendships made and a huge amount of support and connection as a group. For many of our more mature members, it has been really tough to ask for support and we are incredibly proud of them for stepping past the stigma and through our doors. In November, we treated this group to a special day trip to York city centre where they spent the day exploring the Christmas markets, museums, city walls and all of the culture that York has on offer. It was such a pleasure for our team to see them all return to Sean’s Place full of smiles and tales from their day out.

Safe Regeneration & Bootle Canoe Club

In November we were invited by our friends at Safer Regeneration and Bootle Canoe Club to take part in the Canal of Light event on our local waterways. This special annual event is all about giving disadvantaged people as many opportunities as possible and in particular, those who are sight impaired the chance to take part in water based activities. Around 50 kayaks and canoes took to the water once darkness hit, to create a huge flotilla of brightly lit boats with alsorts of amazing designs and themes. Our members really got in to the spirit of things with our boat covered in teal lights and glow sticks galore…and we only got stuck in the reeds a few times!! Well done guys!

Out & About

As the days drew in our members didn’t let the cold or drizzle dampen their spirits when it came to our activities away from Sean’s Place…infact we had more members than ever keen to join both our walking and cycling groups and it was lovely to see new faces popping along to both of these sessions. Our walking and cycling groups at Sean’s Place offer far more than just physical activity; they provide a valuable opportunity to support both mental and physical wellbeing in a relaxed, social setting. Spending time outdoors, moving at a comfortable pace and connecting with others can help reduce stress, boost mood and build confidence, while also encouraging healthier routines. These groups create a safe and supportive space for members to chat, form friendships and feel part of a community, making gentle exercise an enjoyable and accessible way to improve overall wellbeing.

Apex Gym

This month our members were invited to The Apex Gym to take part in a kettlebell session and also experience the cold water plunge too. Our members were supported by our friend Mark Scanlon who encouraged them all and guided them through a meditation, too . Huge thank you to the team for having us, and well done to our members who are growing in their confidence and abilities so much since starting our Thai boxing group this year.

As well as all of these special moments for our members, throughout the month of November we have continued to offer 1:1 counselling support as well as therapeutic groups, to ensure we are giving our members a well rounded package of care.

As always we extend our thanks to not just our supporters and partners but also to our members who trust us to be part of their journey….thank you all.
