October at Sean’s Place

October at Sean’s Place in 2025 was a month full of connection, creativity, and meaningful moments. As the days grew shorter and autumn settled in, our community continued to come together through supportive conversations, shared activities, and opportunities to reflect, learn, and simply spend time with others who understand. From wellbeing sessions and creative workshops to informal drop-ins and special events, October captured what Sean’s Place is all about: offering a welcoming space where men can feel supported, valued, and never alone.

Wheels for All

We kicked off October with a fantastic day at our local cycling track and partnered up with Sefton Council to arrange a cycling track day. Cycling offers a wide range of benefits for both physical and mental wellbeing, from improving fitness, balance, and mobility to reducing stress, boosting mood, and building confidence. At Sean’s Place, we wanted to make cycling inclusive because everyone deserves the chance to enjoy these benefits, regardless of age, experience, or ability. By creating a supportive, accessible environment with adapted bikes, gentle routes, and encouragement rather than pressure, we’ve made it possible for people to take part at their own pace. For some, it’s about rediscovering a love of cycling; for others, it’s about trying something new in a safe, welcoming space — all while connecting with others and enjoying time outdoors.

New Sessions For Our Members

We regularly send our members surveys and ask them what new programmes or sessions they would like to see us offer. In some of our recent member feedback, alot of the men who access the service asked for the opportunity to take part in more creativity based sessions and some mentioned that they would like to learn new ways to switch off and improve relaxation. This is why we launched our new Create and Connect sessions which is designed exactly for these reasons-to harness members creativity and offer a space for relaxation and togetherness. Our new Create and Connect sessions are designed to give members a calm, welcoming space to slow down, switch off, and express themselves through creativity. Using a range of accessible, no-pressure creative activities, these sessions support relaxation, reduce stress, and encourage positive mental health outcomes by helping people focus, reflect, and enjoy the process rather than the result. Just as importantly, Create and Connect offers opportunities to build connections with others in a natural, informal way, reminding members that they are not alone and that shared creativity can be a powerful tool for wellbeing.

This month we were excited to introduce our new walking football sessions at Sean’s Place, offering a fun, accessible way for members to stay active while enjoying the social side of sport. Walking football provides gentle physical exercise that supports mobility, balance, and cardiovascular health, while being suitable for a wide range of ages and abilities. Beyond the physical benefits, these sessions help boost mood, reduce stress, and build confidence, all within a relaxed, supportive environment. Just as importantly, walking football creates a strong sense of camaraderie, bringing people together through shared enjoyment, laughter, and teamwork, and strengthening the social connections that are so important for positive mental wellbeing. Well done to everyone who took part in the first session and thank you to Acrivities For All, Bootle for allowing us to hire the space from you. We are really looking forward to seeing these sessions grow over coming months.

Members Opportunities

Our members recently took part in a British Sign Language (BSL) course, giving them a valuable opportunity to learn new skills, challenge themselves, and better understand how to communicate in a more inclusive way. The course supported confidence, concentration, and a sense of achievement, while also opening up conversations about accessibility and connection with others. Alongside this, we continue to run our mental health peer support group, which explores important themes such as resilience, self-care, and coping strategies in a safe, non-judgemental space. This type of group offers powerful benefits, including reduced isolation, shared understanding, and the reassurance that members are not alone in their experiences, helping to build emotional strength and long-term wellbeing through mutual support.

Halloween at Sean’s Place

We love giving our members the chance to make new memories and reconnect with their inner child, which is why celebrating occasions like Halloween is so important to us at Sean’s Place. These moments of light-hearted fun give people permission to relax, be playful, and enjoy themselves in a safe, supportive environment. This year, our friends at LFC Red Neighbours kindly hosted a pumpkin painting session for 40 of our members, complete with prizes for the most creative designs. The room was full of imagination, colour, and friendly competition as everyone got stuck in. Later in the evening, the fun continued with a range of Halloween games, including the ever-popular “mummy wrap” and “dunkin’ donuts,” which brought plenty of laughter and smiles. As always, it was wonderful to hear our centre filled with joy, laughter, and a real sense of togetherness — moments like these remind us just how powerful shared fun and connection can be for wellbeing.

As well as all of these special moments for our members, throughout the month of September we have continued to offer 1:1 counselling support as well as therapeutic groups, to ensure we are giving our members a well rounded package of care.

As always we extend our thanks to not just our supporters and partners but also to our members who trust us to be part of their journey….thank you all.
