We have had a fantastic first week back at Community by Nature enjoying our sessions face to face. Although Sean’s Place never fully closed as we kept our members busy with online activities, peers support groups via Whatsapp and well-being parcels, it has been great to be back doing what we do best!
This week we welcomed 24 new members to our Sean’s Place family and had 49 men in total access sessions to improve their mental health and wellbeing throughout the week. They were able to access and enjoy all of this…..
Tuesday– We had our first relaxed sessions which is designed to be a quieter session for those that may struggle with social interactions- we cooked delicious homemade pizza and enjoyed making new connections together, we are looking forward to a woodwork workshop this Tuesday to learn learn more new skills and improve confidence through the variety of sessions available
Tuesday evening– Our guitar group reunited- they were able to revisit chords they were learning back in March and enjoy learning new techniques together, We have missed hearing the music they create each week and it was great to welcome some new members to the group too.We also had our brilliant cookery class with our resident chef James Capper who supported the group to make a delicious meal which we all enjoyed eating together afterwards, This week was Lemon and Basil Chicken Pasta- with Strawberries and Whipped Cream. The food was amazing- well done to everyone who took part!
Thursday- Each week we enjoy an online meditation session from the comfort of our homes with the wonderful Charlene from Yogazen- this includes gentle chair based movement then a 30 minute meditation to help relieve stress and anxiety and help with sleep and focus. Due to the success of this group during lockdown we have chosen to keep this as a feature on our timetable moving forward too
Sunday– We had the fantastic Evolving Mindset join us during one of our mental health and well-being workshops- the topic this week was Managing Stress and Anxiety. This workshop was everything we designed it to be- We saw 16 guys leave their homes on a Sunday evening to access support for their mental health, this was so great to see and we are incredibly proud of everyone who attended and shared their experiences.
Monday– We had our first ever Angling Club- This is something that we created through requests from our members and we are delighted to now be able to offer this. We have received donations from local fishing shops who enabled us to provide equipment to our Sean’s Place Anglers to take part, This week the guys learnt new techniques such as casting and the various types of knots that can be used- We are looking forward to using these techniques when we make our monthly visits to Lady Green Fisheries very soon.
